About True Security Gear

True Security Gear is about protecting a home or a person with equipment you can install yourself. Cameras, alarms, locks, safes, and the setups that survive a lease. Nothing here runs on fear, and nothing assumes you want a monthly bill attached to your front door.

This category is dominated by spec sheets and by lists built from other lists. We work from the opposite end. Return policies, warranty exclusions, the complaints filed once the novelty wears off. If a deadbolt keeps failing bump tests in locksmith forums, that goes in the article no matter what the box says.

What we stay out of. Firearms and tactical gear. Security on this site means a door that holds and a camera that records, not an arms race.

Who writes it. The True Security Gear team, credited as a team. Bylines stay collective because the same standards apply to every piece regardless of who typed it, and those standards sit on the How We Evaluate page in full.

How it pays for itself. Display advertising runs on the pages, and a share of the links are affiliate links, Amazon’s included. Buy through one and we may earn a commission at no cost to you. What gets recommended is settled before any of that enters the picture, and several pieces here argue against buying at all. The Affiliate Disclosure sets it out.
